Playing two?

Oh my - I asked a local band "Blue Velvette" if I could play Watermelon Man when they play Bletchley Bandstand today. When they did not reply I accepted an offer to play a couple of numbers with the Fenny Stompers (also this afternoon).

Then Blue Velvette said to come down to their gig as as well!
BV are a trio with a piano base and drums so I am going to be flying solo!

Job done. No train crashes.

Playing with the Stompers was the best - I was just one of four wind instruments. The other gig was not as good as it was just me, the rhythm section and keyboards. All good experience though.

Not totally happy, but at this stage I am happy to get the opertunity and experience. I suffer from nerves really badly and am making myself do this to try to combat those nerves.

The first time I played a was visibly shaking - even my knees.

Yesterday with the Stompers I felt much much better, and was not that bothered when I fronted up the other band.
 
we once played 2 gigs on new years eve- one at a musica hall at elephant & castle across midnight, the next from 2.30 to 4am in brxton.... the brixton one ended up in the most spectacular barrom punch up I've ever seen (nowt to do with us guv) and the entire band went down with flue 24 hours later.. ah happy days!

Well done and the more you do, the easier it gets. You sounded fine at the workshop the other week, so perhaps that you gave you some basic confidence. Not that I have much recent experience in performance, but I do know about public presentations and the live media and I know that you feel your own nerves more than they show to others.

Jules, a music hall down the Elephant sounds positively Edwardian! Did you have to play a chorus of Down at the Old Bull and Bush? Gigs in Brixton reminds me of the Ram Jam club and Desmond's Hip City (that was in the late '60s, oh how that dates me!).

The Elephant & Castle venue was the Coronet- a truly spectacular place to play... beautiful old theatre....
 
Yes, I played a gig at some pub in Camberwell many years ago with a similarly unfortunate outcome.
It only served to reinforce the the view that one should never go 'sarff of the river'.

No good will come of it.
