Did you manage to get it signed? 🙂I recently bought a Teddy Heath 78 where my friend Stan is playing trumpet 🙂
I don't like the idea of marker signs on the vinyl. The cover is just plain brown paperDid you manage to get it signed? 🙂

Even more off topic: I have 16bit/44.1kHz 24/96 of my own album, and I heard it ad nauseam in many versions. The vinyl has an inexplicable depth that beats everything. It does not make sense, I know.
I never tried, but fiddling with the DAW's latency and/or input monitor settings, it should be possibleTalking of the Focusrite 2i2, does it allow you to adjust the mix of instrument input and DAW playback for monitoring in headphones?
I've got the Focusrite solo, which doesn't, but you can control the DAW playback level in the software.Talking of the Focusrite 2i2, does it allow you to adjust the mix of instrument input and DAW playback for monitoring in headphones?
When an old record says "Hi fi" on the sleeve, what does that mean exactly? Were these the days before stereo? I know that it is much better quality that Mono.
Also, would a modern set up play a vintage record and make the sound quality much better, or would it be the same as playing it on an old vintage thing?
Please forgive my ignorance.. i've not had one since the last of my stylus' broke at the end of the 1980s and then my mum just charmingly threw it away while I was moving around in London.

Yes, thank you for that 🙂 And yes to the latter. I don't have the 78s though, but I do remember a box of them being brought down from the loft by my mum and then being thrown out because they couldn't be played any more. I think they would have most likely been Jazz too as only my dad ever bought them! How sickening. Here's an explanation of hi-fi.

There is something about vinyl...
As for the quality of USB decks, I borrowed one off a friend last year and was surprised at just how good the final files were. They even retained the wonderful nuances that are compressed out of most modern releases. The deck was around the same price as a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, so I see no reason why there would be any real difference in quality, particularly if the record is really old.

I don't usually bother with this, as my headphones are so rubbish, but as far as I remember the headphone dial controls the level of the combined signal from DAW and instrument/mic. But you can alter the mix by changing the playback level on the DAW, and then changing the headphone dial to make the overall level comfortable again. It's a bit of a fiddle, but it works (I think). So, you control the volume of the instrument you're recording with the monitor dial, the playback volume on the DAW and the overall volume with the headphone dial?
Superb track and takes me back to my youthHere it is on YouTube, should be ok to use, it has been in public domain since 2009, favourite northern soul track, "Do I love you" - Chris Clark. (Due for a rewire me thinks!)

Carly I think I linked to a video of Stan playing "Her". Which is why I posted another version lower down..
Also I think this is the original "Do I Love You(indeed I do)" by Frank Wilson. The only copy sold for over £25,000 in 2009
Chris..
