I've been thinking a bit about a solo piece at our next concert and fancied having a go at a couple of Rock 'n Roll numbers. I've decided on 'Blueberry Hill' and 'Green Door' from my Take the Lead Rock 'n Roll book. I've been practising these a lot over the past couple of weeks and my wife is now fed up with them, so I'm only running through each one once every other practise session. That should give me enough practise before the concert in December! I've also decided ...
I first started learning to play an instrument at about the age of 10. It was not because I had been pestering my parents for the opportunity to take up music – it was not because I showed any precocious genius, nor because I heard Bachs’ Suite in B and fell swooningly in love with the sound of it, nor that I fell under the spell of some genial twinkly-eyed music teacher at school. It was because Mum and Dad said that was what was going to happen, and being a meek only child, number 1 priority was ...
I've put my alto in the box that my toddler can't reach, rehomed the sling and cork grease into the tenor case, and transcribed the alto piece that I'm working on. I've missed playing it too much. Even though the G# sticks annoying and the left hand thumb blank tends to fall off. I'm not actually any better on it, and the lowest notes need some work, but I love ...
First off, many thanks to Pete for setting me up so that I can blog away even without enough posts. Well, let's get the personal stuff out of the way. I'm Kate, I can and do pass for 35, and following a string of redundancies I'm now at home with my two-year old daughter. I'm using my time at home to crack on with some long-term ambitions - learning to improvise on my sax and learning to ride a bike. Music wise, I played clarinet at school and ground to a halt after ...
I was going to post this in the forum but then I thought it might be better as a Blog. So here it is, my first Blog! I've been quietly smiling to myself as my playing is improving - better crisper articulation, tighter more consistent sound with more depth, improving improvisation etc. In fact I've been very focussed and have worked hard to a small number of specific goals and it seemed to have been working. Karen my teacher suggested at my last lesson that I should stop 'trying' ...
