Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
New: started playing more scales and arpeggios, mainly major though and no diminished whatsits yet. Feel I have exhausted Abracadabra Saxophone and have started some jazz exercises by James Rae and have been playing some jazz melodies - arranged for clarinet but they don't go lower than C so I'm ok.
Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
just for you Smiffy...
Once there was a rabbit who liked to frequent a local bar. He liked to order toast. Some days he'd order wheat toast, some days he'd order white toast, some days he'd order rye toast. One day, the rabbit came into the bar in the form of a ghost. He was dead. The bartender looked at the rabbit and said, "HOW DID YOU DIE!?!" The rabbit replied, "Mixin My Toasts."

A rabbit??
Looks more like a pussy cat to me. Do rabbits have whiskers??Maybe you could design a few more, and we can guess what it is
New - Snowball made a rabbit
Better - Pee Dee reckons it's a pussy cat
Worse - Smiffy's rabbitting on again
'Course it's a rabbit. Have you ever seen a cat with a tail like a #?. Rabbits do have whiskers. I'll admit it's not in a very comfortable posture for a rabbit but you are a bit limited with punctuation marks

Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
can i join your forum please. Just got a new sax finally managed to hit high F#. Been working on improvising with a few guys from the forum, was good fun. Going through my scales as well
Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
New: I now know how to use the octave key, though it often seems to be disabled as it makes no bl@*dy difference to the lower notes.
Better: Long tones now sound much more consistent, almost steady from start to stop.
Worse: Why is it that when I attempt to play the lower notes, and I am only talking about the first basic D here, that it so often seems to start with a squeak the minute I move my tongue from the reed???
Oh-well nobody ever said it would be easy….. Though it is only as frustrating as it is satisfying, so that’s a bonus.
Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
New: I still don't have any saxophone music yet so I've been practising a flute piece by Koechlin that's just about in the right register
Better: Low register
Worse: Articulation in the middle register- more often than not results in unearthly squeaking.
I'm also having a consistency problem still- some days I pick up the instrument and the sound just eases out, other days I have to fiddle with the reed, the strap, and my brain to get anything
Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
Ah Smiffy don't be like that, we may meet at one of the jammin sessions...
Just did theory last night, working on some chord sequences, writing them out and playing them back on the piano, just to see if they sounded alright, will play sax tonight.
Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
Philip, see OG about playing it on a piano he can do it with one touch of a button *when he finds the right one*
Tom have you eaten that sick rabbit

Thanks Tom, i always liked the Welsh, well Miss Church aint bad looking and she likes a pint!
Pauly did you do something in your bed to get up so early and post on the forum?
Had a great practice session last night even the wife commented on how much better i sound. Come on guys we 've got to be positive.
I forgive you Smiffy..
Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
New: Came across an 'x' next to an F in my music with my teacher yesterday. 'Very interesting' she says, 'you don't see those very often. It's a double sharp, so it's a G.' 'Well why don't they just put a G then?' I says. 'Its to do with the way musicians like to write/read music' she says. Music seems to be overly complicated to me!!!
Better: Christmas break from work's a bit nearer!!
Worse: sight reading. I'm really crap starting a new tune with my teacher. I need at least a week to get to grips with a new tune!!!

Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
Don't despair Nick, so what if it takes a week? I put myself under so much pressure to learn new tunes that my wife said i thought you took up the sax to relax. Yeah right!
Agree with you though the more i learn the more i realise how much i don't know.
I hope your not so stressed on the course?
Good luck with the new tune.
I just bought from Jazzwise No 54 Maiden Voyage, great book and quite simple tunes to get practice and confidence, i can recommend it. Phil

It works better if you substitute "Toast" with "Toastie"
Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
New: my Buffet R13 Clarinet
ok so that's not really a saxophone. But I have also got myself a book called 'The Jazz Method for Saxophone' by John O'Neill which is going to turn me into a Jazz n blues horn player
Better: the clarinet
Worse: my bank balance (again) but there's not a lot of point leaving money in the bank at the moment

I told my rabbit to sit like that, and you can't even see his tail!!
