Worse: Rehearsals are 3 hours long - 1.5 hours to go!
I can't tell you how jealous I am that you have long band rehearsals... we have to squeeze everything in in 1 hr 45 a week! My name is joanna and i'm a band-aholic...
Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
Joanna - I don't mind the long rehearsals - I just wish my chops lasted that long - made it for a full 2 hours the other night
My hubby tells me of a famous motorcycle race called the "TTs" on your Isle (he went to school in Wales and attended the bike race yearly - I think he used to participate but won't admit it in front of the kids).
New: chucked the "vintage" reeds, ordered a new box
Better: chops
Worse: thinking I needed a new mouthpiece - it was just the reeds!

Yes the TT races happen here every May/June. I'll probably get shot down by the oldie bikers here but the TT isn't really what the island is about. It's good fun (and sometimes an annoyance when you're blocked in by 200mph bikes for hours at a time!), but the best thing about the island is its breathtaking beauty and fascinating history.
New: Back injury :-*(
Better: Nothing
Worse: Probably my sax playing, since all I've done is whinge about my back!
Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
Hope the back gets better soon Joanna. I've just got over a bad back - it was terrible trying to sleep. Physio sorted me out!!

Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
I'm an "oldie biker" who got a speeding ticket on Mad Sunday when there's no speed limit
I agree though, the Island's beautiful, especially when doing a ton over the mountain
New: pub gigs in November and December
Better: my wife singing in the band
Worse: my wife singing in the band (I'll have to behave)

I don't know many police officers who can be bothered booking someone for speeding on Mad Sunday! Unless you were doing a ton through Kirk Michael and not on the mountain
Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
Better: Making some progress with my new tenor at last and had a great lesson with my new teacher who I am going to get on with very well.
Worse: Total cock up! Forgot my daughter is in a musician competition on Saturday 22nd November and now will have to sell my Tommy Smith ticket as I cannot now go! Buga!!
Anyone interested I will check all tthe details and add to the yardsale tonight.
PM me if interested.

I am back in love with my band again. have had a fun practice, and actually in most of the numbers I can either play an elaborate clarinet part or play random notes on the sax Have even been asked to do the intro for one

Glad it all seems to be back on track Snowball, I think everyone has weeks like that. I guess you have to have some bad times to appreciate the good ones!!
Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
New: Discovered that there is a seriously good tenor for under £500 (Bahaus-Walstein).
Better: Getting to grips with the first 5 major scales.
Worse: Son dropped and chipped his Yamaha 6C mouthpiece. Now having to fork out for a new one.
Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week

Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
New - Have just got my sax back from its service
Better - all the pads aligned and mechanisms working. Can play low C and D (and may be able to go even lower when I work out which keys to press - hasn't been much point trying up til now) and can run down the scale in the second octave without having to take my thumb off the thumb key when I get to G. Money well spent!
Worse - level of funds in bank account
