got my PPT
I got my PPT yesterday with 8* opening. I felt the 9* would be beyond my control. I have started playing in a band and needed something a bit beefier than my Meyer ebonite 5M so i can be heard. I put on a Rico jazz select 21/2, my god what a sound, so open and clear, loud and then quietly controlled. Sure, not being used to such a big open sound i did have a few initial problems in controlling the Mp. After an hour or so it was great. Even down low it sounds wonderful so much control. I even played some ballads, Stella by Starlight, Yesterdays which have long held notes and low notes, just great. I'm sure that with a few more weeks of playing it will sound even better. I'm not on Pete's payroll but feel that other forum users would like to hear what a beginner makes of this wonderful MP.
Re: got my PPT
There's a conspiracy to stop me actually getting a decent session getting to grips with my PPT... work's been so hectic I've not had a chance to give it a go there, my offspring has decided to put his bedtime back by about two hours, plus a stream of unexpected guests, equally unexpected drives to go and pick up family members stranded by train delays, etc etc... all good Karma but very frustrating!

I'll look after the kids if you can drop them over. My 7yo usually does some improvised piano when I'm practising, so a different set of problems. If I just switch to trumpet the problem disappears
Hope it works out good when do do eventually play it
Kind regards
Tom

8.30pm- a 3 year old, in his pyjamas, standing in the lounge doorway, reproaching me, wagging a finger at me and saying "daddy, you woke me up, no more saxophone in my house" doh!
Re: got my PPT
I feel for you, i had a two hour session on Saturday, actually put a Rico 2 1/2 on not the normal Jazz select i play. I am liking this mp more and more, i seem to have more control over what i'm doing, i just love it, my poor Meyer 5mm Ebonite got put in the draw.
Luluna, i'm sure you will get it real soon. Have you got snow there in Vermont? Phil

Could be worse - when each of mine were that age, they were both absolutely terrified of the sax.
Now stop faffing about and give it a damned good test and tell us all what you think. Suggestions.
1 The beach
2 Madeira Drive, far end from the aquarium, under the arches
3 Car
Wrap up warm for all three.

Your offspring seemed quite qiet ans serious whenever we've met. Mine's exactly the opposite- loud, extrovert & a bit of a clown (not sure where he got these traits from!!). He's know to some as the Jim Carrey of the under 4s.....
The best private practice spot in Brighton has unfortunately now gone. Up on lewes raod there was a disused water pumping station with all its machinery removed- one medium sized hall, open to the sky, with ceramic tiled walls and floor (a bit like an empty swimming pool, but deeper- a diving pool maybe)- the place had incredible acoustics, huge booming reverb (like singing in the shower but on a vast scale....

Sounds fantastic. Reminds me of a place I used to go when I was doing my A levels. In a little poky out of the way place called Aislaby, in North Yorkshire, there was a disused church, miles from anywhere. The C of E couldn't get round to deconsecrating it, so it was just left, abandoned, shut up but intact. As it was so isolated, none of the local neds had vandalised the place, so between lessons I used to drive up there, let myself in and play for an hour or so. It was fantastic, amazing acoustics, peaceful and a bit creepy. Made a nice change from A level economics.

Anxiously checking the mailbox for mine......can't wait!
Please let me know when it arrives, it was posted on 15th but Christmas mail can slow things down.
We've had a meter of snow in the last 3 days and more coming - I'm sure that has slowed the post ~ thanks for the update Pete.
in the meantime....I'm going to continue to do my part to keep some of the snow off the mountain ~ http://tinyurl.com/99pwba (view from the top of Laraway Mountain, VT)
that Martin is one of the best presents ever....until the PPT arrives!
Re: got my PPT
I agree with you Simon, Lori that is an awesome view. I used to live in spain just outside Barcelona and we had some fantastic views as well. I'm going back abroad in a year or two. too grey in the uK. Have a good Christmas to you all.
Re: got my PPT
Simon, Phillip and Pete ~ thanks, the view is spectacular....but I gotta admit "The Shining" reference has come to mind more than a few times! It is the boondocks to be sure.
I am contemplating hiking up to the top (there is a trail) with my sax on my back just to play from the mountaintop...hmmm, photographic evidence would be required.
Better yet - my PPT arrived ~ my MK7 is in for an adjustment and repadding ~ the mouthpiece is beautiful - can't wait to get my axe back so I can try it out! Thanks Pete!

Nice view Lulu, makes me feel I wanna get me sled out!
Hey, this could start a whole new thread, get your cameras out folks and show us your views. Even the brick wall at the bottom of your yard!! Could be interesting

Re: got my PPT
Tried the PPT with some Alexander superials, they got so wet within a couple of minutes of playing. I don't normally slobber, would the wider tip opening induce more spittle? Sorry to be so grafic but i am just loving this mp, i had had problems getting low Bb but now it just comes. ( admittedley not perfect, but it's there ) Each time i play this mp it just sounds better. Anyway went back to my Rico jazz select's 2H. Lori did you get you PPT through all the snow?
Re: got my PPT
Sounds like you are still too excited about the PPT or that you keep playing in front of your wife bedecked in her Xmas lingerie. All this slobbering..... its just not natural

Yes, it's arrived! Unbelievably...it's all melted in the last 3 days ~ rain and 60F. Weird. Green grass and stranded skiers galore. I knew blasting that Martin off the back porch might cause havock but not like this!
PeeDee ~ it is a great idea
My tenor's in the shop ~ can't wait to try it out my PPT!
Re: got my PPT
Great Lori, let's know how you get on. I was going to have a night off from playing last night but just got sidetracked and had to play.
Martyn you need to see someone, still i suppose in wales ... not many girls, they've all gone and married Americans, or rugby players.. ha ha lol
Re: got my PPT
The important thing in Wales is to keep your cool
Plenty of distractions, and good looking women, but you just don't want to be slobbering over everything
Glad its arrived, Luluna, now the slobbering can begin
